Project description

Fooducate is one of the first organizations in China to propose the concept of natural food education, develop natural food education programs, and train natural food education teachers. Through farm classes, campus classes, community classes, summer camps, study camps, and other food education activities, and employing interesting and tasty experiential and project-based learning methodologies, Fooducate guides children and adolescents aged 4-18 to explore the relationships between food, food systems, physical and mental health, and environmental health. At the same time, by using food, food systems, and food culture as learning backdrops and delivering hands-on learning experiences, Fooducate empowers students to achieve holistic personal growth. The program is designed to enhance children’s core competencies through hands-on learning and experience.

Project features

Fooducate developed its theoretical framework of sustainable food education, including educational objectives, educational logic, pedagogy, and case studies, based on the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the core competencies taught in the Chinese education system. It then compiled these into a 3-day offline teacher training program to empower educators and fosterteachers to teach and promote sustainable food literacy.
