Shaanxi Dali Fengtu Yicang Food Reserve
Case name
Fengtu Yicang's public education program on food security and food waste reduction
Project description
Fengtu Yicang is a granary with a history of more than 100 years, a living relic of traditional Chinese wealth redistribution customs, and a public food security system. Today, Fengtu Yicang Food Reserve continues its role as a granary while also serving as a cultural educator that teaches us about local food culture, influencing all areas of society. In the future, under the guidance of the Greater Food Approach, Fengtu Yicang will explore more food education materials to develop its functions beyond storing grain.
Project features
By discovering, preserving, and revitalizing the Yicang granary's ancient architecture and cultural heritage, the project preserves historical adherence to the concepts of the Greater Food Approach and equitable food distribution. The project also adopts a variety of food education methods, such as food exhibitions, free porridge distribution, and traditional food-related rituals to awaken modern citizens' reverence and value for food and build a rich and diverse conceptualization of what food means.
