Promoting 24 Solar Terms Food Nurturing
Project description
Modern agricultural technology has made it possible to grow vegetables and fruits outside of their natural season, so many agricultural products that were originally only produced in specific seasons are now available at our wet markets all year round. As a result, people who were born and raised in the city have not adapted to eating certain foods or flavors in certain seasons. Traditional Chinese food culture emphasizes the importance of eating local and seasonal foods—traditional health wisdom based on strengthening and invigorating the body by following the rhythms of nature.
Among urban populations, this traditional local food and nutrition wisdom is at risk of being lost—we need people to preserve and teach it. This is the mission of the RuoSu 24 Solar Terms Food Nourishing project. With a sophisticated curriculum, RuoSu transforms traditional Chinese aesthetic elements into rituals that are relevant in modern urban lifestyles and creates novel and engaging family eating experiences. During these warm family moments, when picky children and busy parents come back to the family dinner table to share a meal together, they are also learning traditional wisdom about food and nutrition.
