Company/Organization
Puhan New Youth Commune
Case name
Promote the ecological transformation of Qi Yan Village through the production and sales of ecological agricultural products
Project description
In recent years, a trend has emerged of young people relocating from cities to rural villages, often giving up glamorous big-city jobs to seek simpler lives in the countryside. Many of them plant vegetable patches with the dream of launching organic farms. Often, local villagers don't understand what these city kids are doing and mock them or advise them against their practices. The local farmers, who have been using pesticides and fertilizers to grow crops for most of their lives, do not believe that it's possible to earn a living with organic farming.
In the face of such doubts, the youth of Puhan New Youth Commune chose a different way to respond. They invited local farmers to sign an organic agricultural product purchase agreement that did not require them to take on any risk and helped them to transition to organic farming, which increased some farmers' incomes by more than 30% and changed their perceptions and attitudes toward organic agriculture.
For China's rural revitalization to succeed, it needs an injection of young blood. If these youth can also inspire older generations to change their thinking and move from poverty alleviation to creating abundance, it will be even better.
