Daming Du is a professor, senior economist at the research level, a visiting professor at Southeast University, an expert in the evaluation of intangible cultural heritage, the founder of the Daming Du Culinary Culture Master Studio, and the honorary dean of the Jiangnan Food Culture Institute. He previously served as the director of the Tourism Department and the director of the tourism department at Wuxi City College of Vocational Technology.
Professor Du is one of the pioneers in contemporary Chinese hospitality education. In the late 1970s, he participated in the establishment of technical training and examination standards for hospitality and cooking. In the mid-1980s and the 1990s, he established the hospitality major at Wuxi Vocational Institute of Commerce and the Hotel Management major at Jiangnan University Tourism and Commerce Vocational College. He teaches several reputable courses, including Hotel Management, Chinese Tourism Culture, Chinese Culinary Culture, and Aesthetics of Catering and Tourism. He has led various provincial and national projects, including the establishment of exhibition management and leisure management majors and the development of hospitality talent cultivation models. His achievements in the school-enterprise cooperation education model have been remarkable, earning him second and first prizes for higher education achievements in Jiangsu Province, as well as the first prize from the National Higher Education Society and the Social Science Achievement Award. In 2010, he received the International Golden Key Award of Merit in Service for education.
Professor Du is the chief editor of Famous Chinese Recipes (Jiangsu Edition) and the author of Chinese Culinary Culture and Chinese Altars, as well as the chief editor of several high school textbooks, including Chinese Tourism Culture, College Chinese, Catering Management, and Taste of Wuxi.
